LATE VEN. DR. K. SRI DHAMMANANDA CENTENARY CELEBRATION | 达摩难陀长老百岁冥诞纪念活动
Venerable Dhammananda was born on March 18, 1919, to the family of K. G. Gamage in the village of Kirinde, Matara in southern Sri Lanka. He was given the English name of Martin and was the eldest in a family of three brothers and three sisters.
STATURE AS BUDDHIST LEADER
In 1965, Venerable Dhammananda had been conferred the title “Chief Sangha Nayaka Thera” of Malaysia by the Siam Maha Nikaya, Malwatta Chapter of Sri Lanka. Throughout his life, Venerable Dhammananda strived tirelessly to bring Buddhism to Malaysians. Today, in Malaysia, Singapore and Sri Lanka, Venerable Dhammananda is hailed for his contributions towards the Buddhist community.
For more than 50 years, Ven. K. Sri Dhammananda had devoted himself to propagating Buddhism in Malaysia. His teachings of the Dhamma has reached many parts of Malaysia and is recognized the world over.
