Theravada Buddhist Council of Malaysia (TBCM)’s Inaugural AGM on 1 September 2012

TBCM’s Inaugural AGM on 1 September 2012 a testimony to Theravadin Unity!

The Theravada Buddhist Council of Malaysia (TBCM) held its inaugural AGM on 1 September 2012, at the Sri Lanka Buddhist Temple, Sentul, Kuala Lumpur. 50 delegates and observers representing 25 Member Organisations and one Associate Member Organisation attended this historical meeting. The AGM was conducted in the most cordial and harmonious atmosphere, a fitting testimony to TBCM members' unity of purpose.

The General Meeting elected the first Executive Committee of TBCM for 2012 – 2014.  The new EXCO took office on the same day, replacing the Pro-tem Committee that was formed earlier this year.  The 11 office-bearers of TBCM are as follows :

The newly-elected Executive Committee had a brief meeting with Venerable B Sri Saranankara Nayaka Thera, abbot of Sri Lanka Buddhist Temple, shortly after taking office.  In the near term, TBCM will focus its efforts and attention on a few preliminary areas :

  1. Establishing a Secretariat for the Council;
  2. Membership recruitment and enhancing liaison and networking among Member Organisations; and
  3. Buddhist education and training.

It is hoped that these initiatives will further enhance the development of Buddhist activities, harmony and cooperation in Malaysia.

The EXCO would like to thank delegates and observers from all over the country who have taken time to attend TBCM's inaugural AGM.  We would also like to thank you for your confidence in electing us as leaders of the Council.
